Politics

Alesseia is a federal monarchy. Each region has its own ruler, but they all bow down to the ruler of Carinor and Alesseia. While the throne is generally passed down from bloodline to bloodline, an opposing family with a high enough caste can challenge the current leader for the throne. If the challenger wins, the leading dynasty changes to that of the challenger's.

The Caste System

There is a strong caste system in Alesseia depending on magic. Everyone has magic, but the rarity and strength of their powers would determine their place in the caste system. As such, the royal bloodlines are those with the strongest and rarest forms of magic. The official rankings go from the royal Caste 0 to the low Caste 5, making six castes. While it is not illegal to socialize with those outside one's caste, it is generally frowned upon to do so. Castes are normally inherited from parents as magic is hereditary. It is possible for a person to apply for a caste different from their current one.
