History

There are more events in Alesseia's history, but the ones written in the encyclopedia are the ones relevant to the story.

The Origins of Sorenair

They say that humans and Atlanteans have existed on Alesseia for as long as history can remember. Various archaeologists can attest to this. Sorens, however, are rumored to be descended from humans. As much as Sorens deny that to be the case, they do not deny that Sorenair was artificially made. The story goes as such:

A long time ago, the ancestors of Sorens lived in Carinor. They decided to build a tower that could reach the skies. Despite being reinforced with magic, it wasn't enough to keep it stable; the tower grew taller and taller making the magic spread thin. After enough storms and earthquakes, the tower eventually collapsed, estimated to be during the year InsertDateHere. The overseer of the project, Soren Cepheus, used all of his magic to encase the falling building in magic and levitate it. Soren Cepheus's body was transformed into the Atlas Construct. The survivors turned the wreckage into a metropolis over time.

It is unknown why the overseer didn't lower the wreckage onto the ground instead. However, one possible reason is that those who were working on the tower had their bodies transformed to suit the high climate. Since they had difficulty living in lower climates, they decided to stay in the air.

The Establishment of the Caste System

Even before the formal establishment of the caste system, those with stronger forms of magic dominate over the weaker ones. Those with life magic skills, both healing and destructive kinds, tend to rise above the others. A feudalistic type of government was common all over the isles. This led to several smaller settlements rising to power over the Alesseian region.

Several wars happened between the people due to differences in power level. More often than not, the upper classes would be attempting to expand their territories by conquering more land, which led to much conflict. Sometimes the lower classes would rebel against the upper classes.

In the year 1521, Alesseia Cepheus and Umbre Cyrus rose to power. They, as well as several other powerful families, signed a treaty to form the nation of Alesseia, the nation named after the first ruler. They also formally established the caste system.

In the upcoming centuries, revolutions against the caste system prevailed. Most of these revolutions failed. After a particularly bloody one in the year InsertDateHere, King InsertNameHere Cepheus came up with a solution: the creation of non-magical regions of Alesseia. Anyone who wished to be placed outside the caste system would be exiled in here. Thus, dalisay places were established all over the country.

The Discovery of the Realm

Several scientists and wizards have attempted to dabble in the art of necromancy but most attempts lead to even more deaths. However, one of the few discoveries that succeeded was communicating with the dead.

In the year 1839, a scientist named Morticia Multo devised the Patayawag ritual. She was able to summon the lost soul of her mother. From there, they discovered the existence of another realm where the souls stay after death. Using the Patayawag ritual, they interviewed various lost souls about the new discovery, now called the Realm of Lost Souls. Sending souls to the Realm for research, up to the present day, is a one-way trip.

However, one of the discoveries that they made was that they couldn't sense the souls of creatures in the Realm. This worsened the relationship between humanoids and creatures; while creatures insisted on having souls, there were humanoids that argued otherwise.

This led to many smaller conflicts between humanoids and creatures. King Alfonso Cyrus ordered for the extinction of creatures in the year 1968. The population of creatures dwindled severely under his reign. Most creatures went into hiding in the same year.

While Queen Catriona Cyrus revoked the rule in the year 2006 and created laws promoting the welfare of creatures, the number of creatures living near humanoid populations is still low up to the present day.

The Era of Romeo Cepheus

Romeo Cepheus came into power in the year 1914 when his mother Marjorie Cepheus died. His era involved increased industrialization and militarization, economic turmoil, and rising crime rate, among other things. While the first few years of his reign were marked by citizen approval, the increasing militarization and human rights violations underneath his rule led to rising protests around the country.

In 1935, then-King Mercutio Escalus of Pringan was assassinated. It was then that King Cepheus declared martial law over the country. Romeo Cepheus restricted various civil liberties and ordered for the arrests and exiles of opposition leaders and activists. As time went on for the duration of martial law, the numbers of extrajudicial killings, tortures, and incarcerations increased. Romeo Cepheus had created a military branch entitled the King's Arm, which committed most of the excesses. Several royals and nobles, including the only heir to the throne Ivory Rose Cepheus, died underneath his reign.

In 1947, it was discovered that Romeo Cepheus had undergone the Immortal's Blessing, an ancient ritual that was said to multiply the powers of the blessed. While this had increased the protests against him and even turned fellow nobles against him, Romeo Cepheus remained in power.

On 1952, after 38 years of his reign, Cydrinne Cyrus challenged Romeo Cepheus to a royal duel, Cydrinne being one of the few who remained in Caste 0. However, Romeo Cepheus had only accepted such challenges if they were to be a duel to the death. As an oracle with a purity vow, Cydrinne Cyrus would die upon the moment she killed someone.

However, the duel still ended in her supposed favor. After a long and arduous battle, Cydrinne cursed Romeo Cepheus and banished him to a place of unknown identity, as she was unable to kill or fully defeat him. After cursing him, Cydrinne Cyrus issued a prophecy that ended up taking her life. The Prophecy of Heroes, as it is called, foretells Romeo Cepheus' defeat and is translated as such:

Heroes of fate, children made saints

Rainbow rises above all without taint

Seven souls bind, three spirits guide

The king broken by their powers divine

Essence of life, pointless in sight

Alesseia will take back what was rife

The exact details of the prophecy are currently unknown. However, oracles speculate that there are seven heroes, one from each region, that will be born to defeat Romeo Cepheus once and for all. The rulers have been searching for these prophesied heroes since Romeo Cepheus was defeated.

The traces of Romeo Cepheus have yet to be seen.

The Cyrus Tragedy of 2007

Ever since the last Cepheus King, the Cyrus dynasty became the only family in Caste 0 and thus the only family allowed to become rulers of Alesseia. The line had dwindled to a point where only two descendants remained: Queen Catriona and her daughter, Mareyna.

In a hidden retreat, Mareyna Cyrus gave birth to Alesseia Meraki Cyrus sometime in June 2007. Queen Catriona died of magical exhaustion on the same day as Princess Alesseia's birth. It is rumored that the former queen had died helping in childbirth. Mareyna has refused to elaborate on the circumstances of the child's birth.

On 23 June 2007, there was a raid on the hidden retreat. Both Mareyna's husband and child went missing in the raid. As a result, there is only one living member left in Caste 0. Mareyna has yet to remarry or give birth to another child.
